Why Honda is the Future for Aston Martin

????

In a surprise twist, Honda and Aston Martin F1 have announced that they will become a works-team partnership from the 2026 F1 season onwards! We already know that Red Bull is swapping from Honda to Ford for 2016, but that means Aston Martin will stop purchasing from Mercedes and forge their own path. But why change to Honda? Why is Honda firmly sticking around in Formula 1 after announcing their departure in 2020? And what does this mean for Alonso and his complicated relationship with Honda? Martyn Lee talks to Jonathan Noble to find all the information and more. 0:00 Why has Honda Committed to F1? 2:13 Is Honda Behind The Curve? 4:06 Aston Works Where McLaren Didn't 6:09 Aston Martin's Risk Picking Honda 7:40 An Aston/Mercedes/Honda Love Triangle 9:12 Alonso's Complicated Past with Honda #f1 #astonmartin #honda FOLLOW us online: Website: https://www.autosport.com/ Facebook: http://facebook.com/AUTOSPORT Twitter: https://twitter.com/autosport Instagram: http://instagram.com/autosport Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, and subscribe!

Red Bull will end its dominance if it goes to Ford, a company with no F1 history, Honda seems to be the future with great horsepower and dependability.

RBR jumped the gun with Ford, and now they are stuck. MV and he red hair guy are saying it is a shame.  Pretty sure Max will be only maybe a 5 time world champion. Today at qualy in Monaco, it showed that Max will never be the greatest. He barely missed being beat by Alonso, which could be his father, in an inferior car.
@almarn Says:
They will be no more fuel or carburant in 2040....at an affordable price...people are still running fro nothing all over the world...and Alonso is ALREADY TOO OLD...

I was waiting for someone to bring up the Mercedes-Aston road car partnership... Are they gonna be powered by little turbo 4s now? Lol
@mrwhatever9025 Says:
Actually, Alonso's body has experienced two fewer years of extreme G forces due to his sabbatical from F1 so his body is 2 years younger than his age.
@Drrolfski Says:
Aston Martin is to be powered by Honda. From an F1 sports POV that probably makes sense but for Aston Martin as an automotive brand? If they win on Sunday then what exactly are they selling on Monday?
@LeeMooEez Says:
Aston Martin is lucky having aramco as the main sponsor similar to mercedes having petronas as the main sponsor….everything changed when Honda leadership changed recently…more open leader 😍😍😍😍😍 Aston Martin championship is very possible

Oh no.

Can't blame Honda but as with anything the weak points only appear once pressure is applied.
@chillikoala Says:
Even though Honda started behind the eight-ball with their first couple of hybrid engine iterations, let's not forget McLaren made a rubbish car that wasn't apparent until 2018 in their first year with Renault. And guess what, McLaren's car is still rubbish.
@mrbungle3310 Says:
Lowering the mercedes empire is always great...what a great decision by aston,i didnt believe in that team because of the strolls but now they are so promising...its a risk with honda but still a great decision

Honestly I feel terrible for McLaren! I was hoping that a deal to team up again was on the cards again with the hope of having improved relations under Zak Brown but not to be. Aston Martin are hungry and Laurence Stroll will do anything to win! The man is driven. Hopefully this introduces a 4 way battle for championships with RB, Merc, Ferrari & now Aston Martin.

Hope Honda and AM stick to there plan for 2026 and beyond. Had to laugh on the driver question. Honda have always made there feels on drivers known. Will Stroll still be in F1 by 2026?
@MoanTheCelts Says:
Why do they keep leaving? They’ll leave again. Where they involved in in the 2026 engine regs? All I heard was Porsche and Audi.

I think the FIA/F1 really really need to find a way to get Lance Stroll THE FVCK OUT OF THAT 2ND SEAT ASAP! That's now a top-tier seat being wasted on a trust fund kid who'd have been relegated to a Williams or Haas at best at this stage in his career due to his severe lack of talent and pace. There are too many talented drivers waiting in the wings like Felipe Drugovich or even Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris who deserve a championship calibre car and/or better team management. What Lawrence Stroll is doing by keeping his mediocre (at best!) son in that seat is doing the sport a serious disservice. How many future Lewis Hamiltons, Max Verstappens or Ayrton Sennas in junior racing are being deprived of showing the world their God-given gifts because of this silver-spoon Canadian døuchebag holding on to "daddy's seat"!? Honestly, we should have seen what Felipe has at this point or even seen Aston Martin making McLaren an offer to buy out Lando's contract to give him a competitive car in his prime, who is arguably the best young driver in the worst situation. The sport needs anti-nepotism rules badly, the era of the pay driver should come to an end, not everyone is Michael Schumacher. Most of them are... Nikita Mazepin and Lance Stroll. Get rid of this shït ASAP. Felipe Drugovich deserves a chance to show what he has in Formula 1 and Lando Norris above all deserves that 2nd seat at Aston Martin.
@gpaje Says:
Honda was terrible back then, but lets not give McLaren too much credit, they had issues with their car as well, but hid behind Honda issues. Once they switched motors, they didn't exactly light the world on fire and Alonso eventually left them.
@djoetma Says:
Honda again not understanding their brand value and why partnering with a brand like Aston Martin will completely push the Honda name away. There are people even from F1 reporting who think Aston Martin is actually in F1 instead of just a sponsor. And even in 2021 with the big Honda logo's, people were talking about 'Red Bull' and not 'Red Bull Honda'. Even in the Netherlands, Honda sells hardly any cars. The brand value is very low and if you want to grow it through F1, it's a daft idea to combine yourselves with Aston Martin. The drivers will not drive a Honda to the track even (not that this is that important, because I bet most people don't even know the RB and AT drivers drove a Honda to the track untill this season (AT drivers still do, RB drivers switched to Ford cars). About Alonso... I assume he won't be around anymore in 2026. The idea that he's a more mature driver now is an odd statement. It's not like he was even in his 20s at the time and we saw the way he left Alpine; it's still that same Alonso. Anyway, to put it short, Honda should have done their own team, not just as an engine manufacturer. Even Porsche and Audi probably got more out of F1 in terms of PR display with the announcement and statements in the years before than Honda got with their 2 billion investment.
