They should’ve changed the PU to a 2.0 V8 to compensate. I’ve heard too many comments from people within F1 worrying that the cars will be slower than F2. Would make a better sound also. I don’t understand getting rid of DRS either. It only gets activated on certain parts of each circuit and then only when the car behind is within 1 second of the car in front. It’s also a technology that’s very applicable to road going hypercars & sportscars.

People expecting a repeat of 2014, with either the same (or a different team) are going to be disappointed. The 2014 engine was built around a LOT of new tech (with one team "helping" the FIA determine the design), the 2026 engine will be built on mostly existing tech, and simultaneously detuned and simplified. Any advantages in the power unit will likely be found in the batteries, but even that will be regulated via strict energy flow restrictions. With active aero coming, I doubt the power units will be where the winners are determined, much like today, the top team will be the one who brings the best aero package.

Red Bull warned about these issues weeks ago. Toto Wolff laughed it off, saying it was proof RBR was behind in their powertrain development. What he should have been doing is asking his aero team "Why does Red Bull know this and we don't, and how far ahead of us in aero development are they?" Anyone counting RBR out in 2026 will likely be extremely disappointed. When the team that has absolutely nailed the ground effects era warns about downforce issues with the next gen car, it should be a wakeup call. Glad that the FIA took them seriously. I see a lot of fans whinging about the next gen car, without realizing they are basically repeating everything Christian Horner and Max Verstappen have been saying.

Honestly, the engine spooling up even when the driver is off the throttle sounds bad but actually isn't. That's how red Bulls blown diffuser engine maps worked and it sounded incredible. The car would be making all sorts of cool sounds while the driver is braking and cornering. Also similar would be the Acura Arx-06 from IMSA weathertech championship making that "chewbacca" sound which is so awesome. Each teams technique for harvesting that extra energy will sound unique and amazing. They meantion it breifly in this video at 13:21

I read that Verstappen said he would rather the new formula was for lighter, V-8 engined, cars. I'd rather there be no requirement on number of cylinders or number of drive wheels. Audi, Lancia, Subaru, VW and others seemed to make AWD work pretty well at one time in WRC. And, Ferrari should be able to use V-12 or Flat 12's if they want to. Maybe limit engines to at least 4 cylinders and no more than 16 (or 12). Of course, the trend in formula 1 is to follow the Indycar and NASCAR lead of identical (or nearly so) chassis with identical engines. If they really want to save money just go ahead and let Dallara make all the chassis and Ilmor make all the engines. That ought to kill of GP racing once and for all. Hopefully, the FOM and FOCA can find other jobs in some other business to destroy.

Now what is it? Active aero or will they have just 2 modes: on or off? The latter would basically just be a different kind of "DRS". Active aero means the car (wings) are constantly (actively) adjusting themselves and I don't see why you would want to turn that off.

It could also be interesting if we had DRS w/o zones and the 1 second rule, but with a total time of DRS activation (over a race), allocated to each driver to use however/whenever they see fit...that could add a very interesting strategic element...

If F1 was really innovative they would jump off the electric bandwagon and on the alternative fuels wagon like bio fuels, like carbon neutral fuels and like hydrogen fuels (electric or ICE). The fuel companies like Aramco, Shell and others are heavily into researching this and this would for real world purposes lighten the over burdened electric grids that already are taxed to maximum and beyond.

The problem is how much of the electric power they use to spool up the Turbos and how much they use it to power the car. How much time will it take to charge? Right now, even with 33 secs worth of deployment, it clips at the end of the 20 secs dash in Baku. With the new regs, the PU will start clipping in the middle of the Monaco tunnel (I am exaggerating ofc). The spoils will go to the team: 1. That improves the efficiency of the ICE 2. Has the better drivability in that the deployment of the electric power and torque in the right areas 3. Has the best recharge and peak deployment How will active aero work? What parts are active (just the wings or the floor inlets)? Will it also include active suspension? That will mean they will invest significantly on dev. Who controls the dev and stop someone from stealing a march? Will they be standard, homologated parts?

I don't know why F1 is advocating for this eco friendly style approach. Race cars have always attracted people due to alot of things but one of those things were the beautiful noises different engine configurations gave. This v6 hybrid crap is not appealing to majority of fans including alot of drivers on the grid but realistically F1 won't get rid of this hybrid crap so in that case to make racing fun in my opinion and to go lighter why doesn't F1 just use the 2016 chasis which had v6 hybrids fitted no problem and then just use this current ground effect and curved rear and front wings as well as the sculpted side pods. These regulations produced alot less dirty air than the previous regulations and with the ground effects floors i believe the cars would be much faster than the 2016 cars especially since the engines are much more understood compared to back then as well as the ground effect floors producing more downforce and more efficient downforce. So 2016 chasis but there should be a limit on the cars length and width as i believe Mercedes cars were slightly longer than the others and that's where each year the cars followed the trend of becoming longer and longer. Have this current regs of ground effect floors and curved wing designs , a Halo, 16 inch low profile tyres instead of the large vison obscuring 18s as 16s will be a compromise between the fat profile 13s and the large low profile 18s

I don't know why people keep saying that lighter cars leads to better racing, in the 90's the main reason given for better racing in Indycars was they were much heavier than refueling era F1 cars. More weight led to longer braking distances and better passing opportunities. Lightweight, refueling era f1 was horrendously bad for overtaking.

The cars are gonna be so slow. F2 might be on par just about. Expect qualifying to be basically one lap over each session because it takes 2 laps to charge the batteries. Expect the race laps to be 10-15 seconds slower. Removing drag on the straights will nullify any drafting and make it harder to overtake.
