McLaren's "Rocketship" Strikes Back - British GP Review F1 2023

????

F1's 2023 British GP did throw out a mixture of talking points, but the main one is that McLaren's aero overhaul appears to have done the trick! With Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri taking home 2nd and 4th respectively, does Red Bull have a new challenge on their hands? What about Aston Martin's lack of form, are they losing their touch or is it something else? And Williams' strong performance cannot go unmentioned either - so we've gotten Matt Kew and Martyn Lee together to discuss all of these points and more for our 2023 British Grand Prix review. 0:00 McLaren Takes Charge 3:22 McLaren's Tyre Strategy Calls 6:18 Hamilton's Thoughts 10:45 Piastri's Best Show Yet 13:53 Drivers Standings 14:56 Williams' Confusing Pace 17:39 Constructors Standings #f1 #britishgp #mclaren FOLLOW us online: Website: https://www.autosport.com/ Facebook: http://facebook.com/AUTOSPORT Twitter: https://twitter.com/autosport Instagram: http://instagram.com/autosport Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, and subscribe!

Life history and reality check "Every Great Empire fall" Williams fall McLaren fall Ferrari fall Renault fall Now time for Mercedes
@MFizzle777 Says:
When Mercedes was up there RedBull wasn’t handycaped with budget cap. Now Mercedes and others are fighting one-handed not developing at their full potential. The budget should be increased the lower you finish in the championship like with the CFD time.

Mclaren is 98 points behind ferrari. Yes I'm holding my breathe.

Lewis is blind. The Mclaren doesn't look like the RedBull, it looks like the Aston Martin and the Alpine. The Mclaren side pod has the same gully that runs down to the beam wing area. The Redbull side pod doesn't have a gully. The floor is also different to the Redbull, so i don't understand why if a car is fast it just automatically gets compared to a Redbull.

McLaren got lucky with the hard tire working as well as it did

I think it's going to be interesting going into next season when McLaren and Williams have more time in the wind tunnel compared to the top four teams. But then again Red Bull has probably been long into their development for next season for quite a while.

The Mercedes car just looks a mess it looks like two diffrent types of car welded together, Mercedes need to stop trying to improve this frankenstien version of a car and just focus on next year both championships are gone anyway. Getting beaten by two of your customer teams can not be acceptable to them.

Toto must be fuming. Even Williams are beating them.

Not a spectacular gp they say... People asking for a spec series and when they get a race which kinda resembles it, they find it boring...

Brits are so pathetically treating Hamilton with a silk glove because god forbid he has a bad car. 😊

Horner is so supportive of Perez. He knows that if he had to replace him with a driver like danny ric, leclerc or russel then his number one max would look just like these drivers.
@ralphe5842 Says:
Well there was no need to burn up your tires just to pass a car earlier and who says Hamilton was the hometown favorite
@moiz04 Says:
Aston martin copied RB. And they were fast at the start of the year. They had more CFD allowance. And after SpanishGP they are no where. Now Mclaren did the same by copying RB. Atleast they have more CFD allowance till the end of the year. That will be advantageous.

McLaren's boss said, on Channel 4, that the initial plan had been for the change of tyres to be to hards, and though they had the opportunity to change them, he decided that in the time allowed, it would have been far too easy to make a mistake (remember what happened to Danny Ric in Monaco that time). Therefore the least problematic answer was to stick to the initial plan. When he explained that and after the interview ended, the drivers in the tv crew saw exactly where he was coming from and said that it was a sign of a good manager to be that clear and logical about his decision making. Had they made that mistake, it could have wrecked the confidence of the team. That's all to the good for McLaren's future.

Lando got the Black and White flag, lucky no 5 second penalty
@Mortimuss Says:
The yellow also burned Russell. He was out performing Hamilton. We all thought the hard tire was the wrong move but it played out brilliant for Lando. 7 championships in a row. 2.5 years and arguably 1.5 years, 🤷😂, and asking if it’s time to question leadership on Mercedes is a ridiculous take. Awesome show. Just sharing thoughts.

Most entertaining race of the year so far 😊
@bertjilk3456 Says:
Piastri is quietly putting together a very solid rookie year. He's one to watch for the future. Here's hoping McLaren's form isn't just a flash-in-the-pan.

Thanks for the video. Could you take a look at the audio levels to cut down on the distortion? It's mostly Martyn's voice.

It's hard to say where Merc is at. They fairly solidly beat a RB, the Ferraris and the Astons this weekend 🤷‍♂️

Dreadfully boring Grand Prix on a track that usually produces solid racing, that was disappointing. Having said that, the Lando vs Lewis fight on the restart solidified Lando as a top 5 driver on the grid for me and was definitely the only memorable thing about this race. Marvelous defending from a car on fresh softs, the way he closed down Lewis' lines without getting his elbows out too much was a sight to see. I am curious how that McLaren car will handle the Hungaroring and Spa. Aston's starting to drop off which is strange after being so consistently able to fight with the top 3 teams this year. Also, another Ferrari masterclass with their strategy converting a 4-5 into 8-9. The comedy never ends at Maranello does it.
@Axle0Bullitt019 Says:
I have been very much of the mind that Perez's spot was not in jeopardy as he was middling enough and Max has the constructors handled on his own. After this race I no longer believe he is safe in the slightest and if he does not land podiums in the next three races Red Bull should drop him. It was funny that after just friday Perez stated in interviews he was out of his slump and I just knew he was going to jinx it.
@ChumpyChicken2 Says:
Still can’t get a victory old Lando.

What's with the booing of Max Verstappen. Does the British policy of 'hostile environment ' now extend to sports as well? Twats.
@fivetimesyo Says:
Nobody cares about Max anymore. So now this season is about what happens behind Max and, if you understand that, it's a bloody banger!
