Why the Mercedes F1 W14 Isn't Changing 2022's Bold Concept

????

After Mercedes revealed its W14 F1 car at Silverstone, viewers were surprised but pleased to see the return of the black silver arrow, albeit with a lot more "naked carbon" than before. But why is the car back in black, and why are they so confident in their W13 2022 car's design concept that they haven't switched over to a Red Bull or Ferrari style design? Alex Kalinauckas chats with Martyn Lee to discuss these questions and more. #f1 #mercedes #formula1 FOLLOW us online: Website: https://www.autosport.com/ Facebook: http://facebook.com/AUTOSPORT Twitter: https://twitter.com/autosport Instagram: http://instagram.com/autosport Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, and subscribe!

To get an 8th wdc in the fully maxxed out zero-side-pod design would be the icing on the cake...
@jok3r906 Says:
The problem isn't the side pods like everyone wants it to be, but the issue they had last year was actually the floor, and because of how low they ran, Mercedes suffered the most... Will the same happen this year?

Prediction, 2023 merc runs away with title. 2024 all other cars are predominantly black exposed carbon. 2025 fia introduces rule 50-60% of car must be painted🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️😎😎🤣
@jackkramer3884 Says:
Still looks like it’s been in an accident. Hope it’s faster than it looks. Like the black though.
@michaeldelaney7271 Says:
... and, the black livery does help hide the details of the the design. Maybe Ferrari, and the rest, should turn out their cars in black? Then, if everybody follows suit ... we'll finally have the most boring looking grid in the history of F1 to go along with the most rigidly controlled designs. Innovation in F1 is a myth. Fiddling with details is all that's allowed these days.

Criticized other teams for having the all too similar livery as 2022, then Merc back with literally no livery design and every Merc fans : "stunning" hahaha
@jenaugus1982 Says:
Bold? I believe you meant bad.
@thomasheuer1916 Says:
Originally. Cars had to be " under " the weight. Not over.
@thomasheuer1916 Says:
As I know it. The cars were so new they didnt have a chance to paint them. Straight from the factory.
@petet968 Says:
Don't like the black on any of the cars. Why don't the FAI just raise the weight limit a couple of KG's?

Great video,

11:25 I never heard these guys say Hamilton/Mercedes dominance was boring.
@JayB2 Says:
I LOVE naked carbon! It's so Kool how there are diagonal lines all over the car. They are very subtle & actually give it a matte' kinda look. Looks fast as hell. It's lighter & has more horse power. We will find out very soon how fast it is in comparison to Red Bull.

What if the RB19 is the RB18 w/ the updated rules package & they using the savings for updated throughout the season?
@o0oStillWeRiseo0o Says:
Mercedes already proved the design worked towards the second half of the season. The biggest issue on the W13 was the floor.
@StreetComp Says:
Here’s hoping Mercedes struggles again, F1 was fun to watch last year after so many seasons of boring ass Lewis
@davidvalencia129 Says:
Theres already too much black and exposed carbon fiber cars in the grid... Silver should have been chandes man...
@tommoose1973 Says:
The story is true, Alfred Neubauer who was the then team manager ordered the cars to be stripped of the white that they were painted (the then German racing colour) and to be taken back to bare metal. This resulted in the original silver arrow

They didn't look confident at all. They will fight with Renault and Haas for 3rd.
@rob4614 Says:
Hate the black livery the silver arrows must always be silver not black, its like ferrari dumping their red livery for black which is sacrilege same holds true for mercedes for dumping their silver livery

This is the year for the 3 way battle Can’t wait 🤩
@onlyrushb6428 Says:
they had the idea last year... and it worked (well, sorta). now its just refining it.
@titancheat Says:
Front wing ect looks more ferrari to me but side pods and rear is definitely their own thing. Interesting how it goes.
@JustinAH Says:
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say W14 will be a turd on racetrack. Doesn't Mercedes know about the Area Rule? I know it's a 70 year old concept but I don't think air has changed much in that amount of time 😅
@Fatboy8954 Says:
What’s so bold about it?
@infidelgastro Says:
It's back, it's black it's bad and they (Mercedes) are mad...
@robfer5370 Says:
W14 looks so aggressive, gonna rip the grid up!!!
@geert-jan964 Says:
Pfff Lewis this and Lewis that, what about George ? George, Lando, Charles and Max are the future and the future is now

@philspencelayh5464 Says:
Mercedes have to do it their own way. Any team that copies last years Red Bull is hoping that they have gone the wrong way with this years development. Lets hope they can get the weight down enough to paint it silver, it looks like there's too much black out there from what we've seen so far.
@jgbains Says:
the drivers will know by the first corner
@wyatberp3611 Says:
Just can't take a guy with a man bun serious..
@GFSCN69 Says:
Give Hamilton the 8th title? I don't think so. If and when they have a title contender again, I put my money on Russel. He's the hot new talent, and he already beat him in his rookie season. He's only going to get better, the more he's at home and can influence the car design.
@fredericktennant9151 Says:
Since when has a reserve driver shown up at a reveal and who is he?
@2020ggg Says:
Best looking car, hands Down
@shanesimpson645 Says:
No they didn’t get the idea from Ferrari. It was announced 3 weeks ago they were doing this before Ferrari announced their launch.
@WaelAli-sd8sw Says:
Only three - four tenths? There potential is so much higher than that. Unless, they mean unlock 3-4 tenths at one time…
