Why F1 and its Teams are STILL Unconvinced by Andretti's Plans

????

While earlier in the year Andretti made a big splash announcing a partnership with Cadillac to join F1 in the future, it's not as simple as just saying you want to join F1. So why is Andretti's F1 future currently on the fence? Who needs to change their mind? And why are F1 teams largely not supportive of an 11th F1 team? Luke Smith takes a deep dive into the scenario to find out why. Thanks to MDM_designs for the awesome Andretti F1 Livery! Very simple….Without Andretti-U.S. owned Liberty Media, & F1 have zero U.S. market value.

Andretti indy car teams suck hes bringing the name
@rodneyramos9101 Says:
Eliminate budget limits. You need to earn tokens to update car from last race. Last place earns the most tokens allowing most upgrades at next race. 1st place gets no tokens and no new upgrades for next race.
@rodneyramos9101 Says:
Have as many teams as you want. Only top 10 teams qualify. Last team determined by their highest qualifying driver. Prevents a Max or Lewis crashing in qualifying from missing the race if their teammate qualifies higher.

I don’t get it why has f1 been so hell bent on not allowing an American team in? Who the hell is wolf to say an American team is not good for f1? But it’s ok for f1 to have 2 races in the USA & make a ton of money from it. F1 is nothing but a bunch of hypocrites & racists.
@robainscough Says:
In C. Horner's own words "Build a better F...king car" ... Horner the ultimate hypocrite ... cries when another brand new team enters the sport that might displace him at the top end of the grid some day ... what a baby Horner is and the entire Red Bull team of cheating over budget hypocrites. FIA/F1 is a plain stupid ... more cars = more competition ... more fans involved and F1 teams don't want more competition?? Hey, it's not about "the teams", it's about entertaining the fans and TV contracts ... without fans/TV F1 is nothing.
@susanhenderson2322 Says:
Cadillac/ GM sponsorship is seen as Andretti trying to do an end run around the sponsorship issue raised on an earlier attempt by Andretti. Michael and Mario's attitude doesn't help them either, they may not get admitted before other new teams join, it's virtually impossible to change an old boys club without being an old boy.

@eilois Says:
Big team being annoying, Mercedes included. But Mercedes also not making much back in their 2016 dominance. However Red Bull actually could cheated the revenue by owning two teams they also have twice development quota. Who believe there are no espionage? McLaren espionage only revealed after specific lawsuit. But these two team work together. At this point, F1 should follow MotoGP and allow teams sell complete package of cars. Regardless their claim to have independently developed, they can just develop a different path to experiment more. 2022 is very convincing that the difference of path they took intentionally caused Tauri underperforming. While Red Bull dominated. Feel bad for Ferrari that actually took it a year earlier
@gem.dionisio Says:
The teams are just greedy, especially mercedes.
@valcarter8858 Says:
It would be great to have more teams. More seats available for up and coming drivers. The closed shop we now have is too cosy. But I am only a fan - and have been for over 50 years - and fans don't matter to the FI establishment...
@AndrewYac Says:
This is all about not only revenue money, but also sponsor money and politics If there's a proper American team instead of the tool makers (yes, Haas makes tool) a lot of sponsors would go with them instead, especially American sponsors, even if they perform bad, as Andretti brings a lot of USA fans bc of being one of the most succesful raing teams currently, and the Cadillac sponsorship makes it worse, as they're also succesful at endurance racing And about politics, if there happens to be a change in the regulation and teams want to vote about it, instead of a single team having 10% of the votes, when a new team enters, it'll be another party to convince for them to vote to their favor as well, and instead of automatically having 10% of the votes, they'll have 9.09% of the total votes Also, 10 healthy teams? Williams is going downhill since Claire Williams started managing the team, Haas always takes a step back, don't have enough money, and always take stuff from others, they take the most parts and inspiration as possible from Ferrari, and pay Dallara to make the chassis, Alpha Tauri is just the Red Bull clothes brand and is just a 2nd Red Bull team, Sauber also does nothing, sells nothing, has no money and is never on championship contention since BMW
@thijshagenbeek8853 Says:
I'd go so far as to say Andretti is being cheated. If the rules are clear cut what is required to get wheels on track and Andretti manages it, then let them race. Or is F1 not aware of their own regulations on entry to the sport.
@chopkicks2664 Says:
I'd always thought the best case scenario was for Andretti to buy out the team I always root for to finish last, but Haas is as uninterested in selling his team as he is in promoting American drivers.
@chopkicks2664 Says:
We know Zak Brown is on Andretti's side and with Toto now warming to the announcement, it will be just a matter of time before the rest of the mutineers jump ship.
@gprimeofx Says:
That render of the car in the thumbnail is simply astonishing, love it 👍
@rabidlenny7221 Says:
Yeah I agree, an Andretti F1 team with an engine provided by the largest US manufacturer hailing from a country with a TV market likely the size of Europe's is pretty questionable whether it would be worth it to let them join. It's basically at the point where I don't think it matters what Andretti does or doesn't do. The other teams don't want him to join, they just continue arguing weaker and weaker points like this one. Also tbf at 1:25 thats a 9% loss, not a 10% loss. Not a big difference but if it was in an F1 teams favor to argue the point that Andtretti should be kept out, I'm sure they'd make a huge deal like "Do YoU kNoW hOw mUcH pRiZe MoNeY tHaT iS!?!?!"
@frankbieser Says:
I would also point out that Haas, like F1, is American owned, but not really American run. Andretti/GM will bring America.
@frankbieser Says:
Also, the 10% loss math is wrong. The 11th team won't get any of the column 1 or 2 money. Nor the heritage bonus. There is a column 3 to help struggling teams, but that's it. But an 11th team will not dilute every team by 10%. The potential dilution of the top 10 will be minimal. Plus they will be getting a $20M bump just to let the 11th team enter. And, an Andretti/GM name will bring more money to the sport overall.
@frankbieser Says:
The financial concerns are weak. As pointed out by others, if Andretti/GM can't "add value" to the sport, then no new team has a chance. Which I think is exactly how the existing teams want to keep it. Protecting the status quo always feels safer. What it really boils down to is the top teams having to deal with a team that could actually compete with them. This makes them cowards.
@dylanlange5521 Says:
I find it funny that when Porsche and Honda brought up the possibility of coming back to the sport, the other teams welcomed the idea with open arms. But when Andretti wants to join all these hoops appeared for him to jump through. Now that he’s willing to do that, and brought GM/ Cadillac on board they’re still not allowing it.
@thelord7878 Says:
10 stable & successful teams....Haas & Williams cannot be classed as that....perennially failing more like it...the most capitalist sport behaving like a closed shop doesn't do F1 any favourss
@mbukukanyau Says:
The Emperor is naked. The action is over at Le Mans Style Endurance championships WEC and IMSA.
@jeffrykopis5468 Says:
"10 HEALTHY teams"?? Williams has one foot in the grave, and Haas has arrested development!
@tturi2 Says:
If they don't want dilution, no sister teams and one team per engine manufacturer.
@cryptoswithpotential181 Says:
F1 just needs 10 strong teams. Interest groups should really just cooperate with existing teams.
@calvinchann1996 Says:
It's not that they are against him. F1 is a complicated formula with regards to money. The sum is fixed so any additional entrant means that everyone gets less. For some, this little bit less may be enough to make F1 untenable. They're just protecting their continued presence in F1.
@BENTAYGA2 Says:
A legitimate American team called Andretti/Cadillac entering F1 would be epic!
@bgm-1961 Says:
Not sure about the benefits an Andretti team (with an American driver) would bring to the sport, huh? How about half of the US's current racing market? If that's not enough of a benefit, then most F1 teams really are a bunch of whiny prima donnas.
@JoseMVelazquez Says:
Totto Wolff questioning the value Andretti could bring to F1 is ridiculous. He was ok with Marussia or HRT but when a team owned by a racing dynasty, whose name has been synonymous with motorsports way before Wolff was even born is absolute hypocrisy. Everyone knows americans love anything "Made in America", so to have an all american team will for sure bring in a lot of new fans and make the existing ones even more involved... let alone have a team that understands racing. No, it's not about value, they simply don't want a (potentially) strong team to compete with them and take away a slice of their pie.
@treyblaze22 Says:
What a bunch of greedy cowards in formula 1. This sport is a joke.
@HeliSal700 Says:
I don't understand why the teams have so much to say in F1. What the heck? The F1 Organization should be the one who decides. I can understand the reluctance to accept a financial loss. But, come on ... 600Mio? And why is it a problem t have a second U.S. Team on the Grid? F1 has two Italian teams and at least five Teams from the U.K. So what's the point?
@jbarber1016 Says:
It’s just money. Has nothing to do with them not thinking Andretti is serious.
@mikesmith9781 Says:
At least Andretti have racing pedigree unlike some teams that have come and gone over the years. As I have said before how many times does the original teams or other teams in the past threaten to quit F1. no team is too big for Formula 1, the FIA and bigwigs need to keep the fans on their side, no fans, no money, no TV rights, bring on the new teams. It's got to be a no brainer thumbs up from me.
@manitoublack Says:
All these news stories form the usual outlets are missing the bigger picture. Liberty Media clearly want Andretti and GM on the grid. They've clearly made that clear to the FAI and told them to make it happen.
@dannybartlett4225 Says:
because there no big enough
@Renard998 Says:
It's a sorry state of affairs when the current 'players' of a sport dictate who can and can't join the 'playing field'. When the teams start asking 'how will this affect us' and not 'how will this affect the sport', it suggests the teams have too much influence.
@vapeymcvape5000 Says:
F1 is getting to be too gross.
@scotthardwick7413 Says:
If it comes up to a toss up between Porsche or Cadillac i know who F1 will go for
@Rego1313 Says:
So basically McLaren and Alphine best of the rest say we are used to not winning, but take enough of the pie and a bit more money will go our way on average and our fame won't rise or drop much. Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, rather not have them here, who knows they might be actual contestants we'd rather have a team that won't be a threat. All other teams think they will end above us and we will lose income. Summed up: we love racing, it's all about honour...unless we'll lose some money either in prize money, merchandise (the name Caddy will likely draw a decent part of merchandise sales towards this team) or potential sponsors. FIA should ignore the teams in this occasion imo, Andretti+Cadillac is likely to add something to the sport, the team's are just greedy as far as I am concerned.
@axlrose357 Says:
If Andretti was so determine to enter F1, why don't they just buy Williams or joint with HAAS and change a team name to whatever they want? Much easier, much less conflict and possibly a lot cheaper.
@spotontheroad1 Says:
I'd like to see more teams and bigger grids in F1 but can't help thinking it would be cheaper for Andretti to just purchase Williams which barring an aerodynamic and financial miracle is sadly dead on its wheels.
@just_some_bigfoot_hacking_you Says:
That dodgy FTX sponsorship: F1: _"Oh dear, oh dear, gorgeous."_ Andretti-Cadillac or basically anything about competition: Also F1: _"You donkey!"_
@DekGT5mad Says:
What the teams seem to be overlooking is that any American sponsors that Andretti brought on board have had a long time to enter F1 but didn't form a relationship with any of the current teams, so they won't be losing anything at all if Andretti came in. If you look at GM motorsport history recently,example being the growth and success of the Corvette GT3/E in the US and at Le Mans, they have been slowly growing in size and quality, so it's not a stretch to think they could end up more than a sponsor exercise and become full fledged for the next aero /chassis rule change, which is bound to happen about 2030 or slightly sooner, IF THEY ARE LET IN NOW!!!!
@jarigustafsson7620 Says:
Simple: GREED & MONEY.
@rt2255 Says:
Scared of american team, bogus body if they cut competition. F1 is a scam for money making not a racing series. I quit watching it yrs ago because.it only has 2 teams allowed to win title
@stephenodonohue9876 Says:
Hey Autosport, GM hasn't been the 2nd largest vehicle manufacturer in the world for many years. It is currently the 8th largest (by vehicles sold).
@DiscoR53 Says:
He should get a co-sponsorship from Tesla. There’s plenty of money there. If they want 600 million give it to them and that will quickly silence them.
@Grant80 Says:
Correction, GM isn’t the biggest manufacturer in the USA actually Ford NGM? I’m not the second biggest manufacturer in the entire world in fact, Andretti was looking at using ford power plants
@johnduda5237 Says:
It’s ridiculous that f1 teams are trying to block them. GM is one of the biggest manufacturers in the world. Sure they don’t distribute in Europe but f1 isn’t just European anymore. It’s global, and it’s huge in America. Saying they’re not big enough is a slap in the face. Sure they’ll run Renault engines to begin with but GM has an engine planned for 2026 should they enter. They’d be more productive than Williams that’s for sure.
