George Russell's maiden F1 victory of the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix won Autosport's Moment of the Year award at the 2022 Autosport Awards. Funny thing is i dont think he will ge the same freedom next season,think this season (in the 1st halh) he had the freedom to show his skills as a rookie to the team and by the 2nd half he was better than expected to be forced down,however next season is the one that can rise or break him depending on what team orders dictate.I dont think Rosberg 2.0 is next but i could see a rift at Merc once more maybe not to that expent as back then.

These award shows mean nothing in terms of an unbiased look at motorsport. I'd like it to be different, but it's not. He got a win, his first win. It's not even GR's best moment after dropping quali highlight reels for the first chapter of his career at the backmarker williams outfit.
What Chastain did was out of a video game and might be one of the greatest packaged moments in Nascar.
What Nick did was maybe the most validating moment Formula E has had since it's inception. (imo, not saying either are facts, my opinion matters just as little as the award itself.)

The envelope had to say De Vries, I'm betting DC just wanted to be mister popular and play to the cheers... A George win was always going to come but De Vries should have been in F1 years ago, he's shown real class in f2 then ended up getting snubbed for the likes of Giovinacci, Latifi, stroll and kvyat then ended up in formula e. If it weren't for Merc being in FE we probably would have never seen de Vries in F1 at all so that has to be the moment of the season.

Still, glad it even got mentioned. Award ceremonies like this often forget other motorsports exist, it shows how big a moment in history it was.
