It's fun to watch these matches, to discover, even. within Roger's career, that his game got measurably better. But it seems unfair to Martin Verkerk to not even give him a name in the match, or drop it somewhere in the description or even an early comment. Guy played a great match, and yet he's nobody to whomever posted this. This happens all the time with these types of videos.

Is it just me or is old 2017 Federer somehow superior to 2004 Federer?

Thanks for bringing this match in HD quality. A joy for all Fed fans out there

This video proves how much framerate helps watchability for older matches

When I watch these older matches I see a stark difference in power.
Athletes hit way harder nowadays.
Sinner and Alcaraz pummel the ball like anything.

This was an intriguing match to watch between 2 one-handed backhands and featuring so much serve and volley, thank you for sharing! I feel like Federer a year later would have destroyed Verkerk in straight sets and 2006 version of Fed might have double bageled him like Gaston Gaudio!

Only Rog could’ve overcome this quality opponent. Incredible effort

Anyone else miss indoor carpet?
@mauroc4741 Says:
This tournament was much more fun when it was played on indoor carpet. Nice match by Verkerk and the Maestro.

WOW what a match from Verkerk!! He was sooooooo close at a couple of those matchpoints!

I can't get around my head the stunning evolution of Roger...The late Roger would have executed his 2004 former self 6/1 6/1...he was not moving that well ( I mean well enough to be top 30 but not top 5 let alone GOAT status)....and he started on the pro Tour in 1999...we can think after 5 years a pro player has stabilized his game...Pistol Pete was already a monster at the age of 19...Boris Becker won Wimby at the age of 17...Alcaraz was already really impressive at a young age.what the heck happened with Roger to turn into a completely different player after 5 years on the tour? I've noticed the same thing with Lendl on the 80's. Weird stuff...

Federer is the best player to ever play the game. It's not even a question at this point.

Mister 40 - 15!!!❤

Federer has been retired for 4 years, still the band plays on, I’m sure it helps his endorsements, while active players struggle to make ends meet.🤔
