They didn't touch him because of getting a penalty... if a QB proceeds to run out of bonds, the defender has to slow down... You can't be faking defenders and then skanting for another 20yds.. I'd hit and take a 15yd penalty all the time...

I think at that one point, they assumed he was running out so didn’t tackle and he punished them for it. This was on the defense but mahomes has in the past faked taking a slide or stepping out which he should get absolutely clobbered for
