The fact that the Fijian team had no gas at the end of that game is probably a big reason for why they can't compete against the tier 1 nations... at least Japan had that going for them. Fitness should not be an after thought in rugby

Clearly the fitness in this Fiji side is much much better than what it ever had been, so they were able to weather the prolonged fast paced Japanese phase of attacks and even the brutality of the back and forth. It showed in the end how a fit Fiji team can keep the physicality till the end, and they destroy teams in the end. The coaching team for Fiji need to work now on efficiency around tackling techniques and attacking structures. The tacklers have to work together to hold players up, ball and all and drive them back. This stops the attacking teams momentum and gives the defense time to setup their line. Around attack they need a good 12 to run that backline with 10 and 15. The indecisiveness of 12 was killing the attack. #7 needs to do a better job from the scrum, that Japanese first try was because he was running lazy on his line from the scrum allowing the cut run inside possible and he missed his tackle. That is flanker role basics and he slept on it. Also, only #6 was winning Jackals., #7 and 8 are not doing their jobs.

Indigenous Japanese rugby players needs to bulk up more, so that they don’t need European looking mercenaries to play in the national team. Or use Japanese martial arts like Aikido (Aikido is based on utilizing the energy of the opponent to bring them down [perfect to take down big Dutch Springbok guys) and others like Judo. 😁 Go Japan! 🇯🇵 🏉
