Facts. People now are looking at the footage of Jigoro Kano and other very old historical pieces that people probably didn't think would become hugely important documentations. People review matches from decades ago, tell stories with narratives about how some judoka's path turned out, how the sport evolved. The visual documentation is crucial in translating the atmosphere. And you might pass a bunch of photos from events that are often used just as support for text articles, but if you stop and look at them and try snapping some shots yourself, you quickly realise how good they are at what they do. To be able to catch moments you might not even think about photographing, and getting just the right moments in time. In fact I'm surprised the head photographer, or director, isn't guiding all the cameras like a tv broadcast, and that they don't have the benefit of each being assigned to a single match at a time. Makes it even more impressive that they get the shots.
