Bears got two of Daniel’s top 3 players on his big board

Penix has quite an extensive injury history so even if he does start there is a good chance he is going to be missing games due to injury and cousins can come in.

I keep hearing about what the Vikings gave up for McCarthy and Turner but I think most of the analysis misses the point. First, the Vikings were in a tough spot. They made the initial move to pick up #23 because they wanted to situate themselves to be able to present the best possible trade package in case they needed to move up to get one of the QB’s they really wanted. Pre-draft, the worst outcome of picking up #23 was that they would actually need to use it to trade up. The best outcome was that they would not be forced to use it to trade up and were then able to pick a good player. Second, the Vikings did NOT pay #23 + #42 + #188 + 2025 2nd + #167 + 2025 3rd + 2025 4th and other picks to go up 6 spots. They already had the #23 pick so to move up 6 spots in the First Round to get Dallas Turner they traded #167 + 2025 3rd + 2025 4th. Basically, they traded #42 + #188 + 2025 2nd + #167 + 2025 3rd + 2025 4th to move up 25 spots to #17. Third, yes moving from #11 to #10 was a small overpay, but it was significantly less of an overpay than moving up to #4 or #5 to pick the same player. Fourth, all of the trades take separately were not really that egregious. I know it is out dated but using the most basic Jimmy Johnson value chart: 1) Texans Trade: (#42 + #188 + 2025 2nd) is very close to (#23 + #232) 2) Jets Trade: (#11 + #129 + #157) is small overpay for (#10 + #203) 3) Jaguars Trade: (#23 + #167 + 2025 3rd + 2025 4th) is almost equal to the (#17). Finally, yes, the Vikings have very few picks in the next years draft but they were able to get their Franchise QB (at least in their eyes) and a blue chip pass rusher without giving up more than a single first round pick. Add to that, the fact that they bit the bullet with Cousins void years dead money and put themselves in position to have a lot of cap room next year even with the signing of Justin Jeffers (assuming that happens).
@davidareeves850 Says:
When CC the QB asks for 60 million in two years, the falcons say you're good, try and find that money, we got our guy.
@Ninjachickenfingers Says:
34:18 “Cuck Cousins” 😂 spot on doe
@richedinero Says:
So you saying its ok for the saints to jump the Falcons for Penix when they have Carr… if anybody behind falcons in draft knew Falcons wanted Penix Teams would’ve possibly jumped into the top 10 for QB
@drakeholliday5671 Says:
As far as 2025 QBs go, Jalen Milroe could wind up looking real real enticing.
@Jayar_ Says:
28:06 Love how DJ said screw dancing around this topic, let’s rip the Falcons a bit
@BoomorBust Says:
I don't get all the post-draft discussion about the offensive players. It was known in January that the defensive class was super weak.
@mikecontreras6974 Says:
A second problem, DJ, with this system is that some teams have multiple top 150 picks. This obviously gives them an advantage as they would have naturally more points within your 150. I think sometimes you guys like to come up with things so that you can put winners and loserson prospects that have never played a snap in the NFL. This Hass to be one of the most in and ridiculous concepts in modern sports.
@mikecontreras6974 Says:
The problem with your numbering system, DJ, is that your system? Does it account for team need and team scheme. So while I love your idea and your 150 the idea to put a point value on each one is a fallacy.
@zacharymitchell3963 Says:
The model the Falcons are following is the Ryan Pace model. Mike Glennon and Trubisky, Dalton and Fields. I wonder who gave them that idea. 😂
@kevintross9778 Says:
DJ is spot on with The Falcons picks of Penix. So stupid to waste a pick on a team that hasn’t had a winning record since 2017. That’s so stupid.
@AQUA_KY3rl Says:
Kansas City should not be allowed to have draft picks anymore
@brianmulholland2467 Says:
What the Falcons did can only be explained in one of two ways - Owner interference, or General Manager Malpractice. I've a hunch that some day, we're going to hear that Arthur Blank forced one or both of these moves because he had PTSD from the last few years of bad quarterbacking. But if he didn't, this move is so bad in every way and from every angle that it would signal that that organization fundamentally does not know how to assemble a contending team. If this move wasn't forced by Blank, then Fontenot should be fired immediately. Both the Cousins route and the Penix route make sense independently (though I don't think Penix is that good, if Atlanta did, they should follow their board)...but each of these moves undermines the other. If you pay Cousins, you need to be brutally efficient with your use of draft resources and remaining cap space to produce a winner. If you draft Penix, you need that cheap rookie deal and the $100M to build the roster around him. By doing both, you have neither. What you have is a really valuable player sitting on the sideline, regardless of whether that player is Penix or Cousins. And it's about to get worse because Atlanta might get dinged for tampering and lose even more draft capital.
@ryankendall1037 Says:
I don't get why everyone is hating on the falcons pick. Not a fan of them but I understand why they would do that. Cousins would be the perfect mentor whether he wants to or not

@Innovate22 Says:
Daniel provides the deepest, most insightful analysis, proving the utter incompetence of the Atlanta Falcons. The only note worth adding is their public rejection coach Belichick, who allegedly wasn’t even in their top-3 candidates. Falcons making a strong case to be the most dysfunctional franchise in the league, with the Panthers and Broncos nipping on their heels.
@jonathanruiz7877 Says:
Only way Atlanta looks smart is if they pull a nick foles

It says full NFL draft recap and yet almost the entire video is about the first round quarterbacks
@grantgrant6746 Says:
If it wasn’t Penix who is Kirk’s backup? What would happen if Kirk misses the first couple of games? You think anybody going back to Desmond ridder?
@timothyfisher5770 Says:
I like what Atlanta did they don’t want to be in QB purgatory anymore. Let look at the Saints post Breeze? Or Pittsburgh post Ben or Atlanta post Ryan. Now they have a top 10 starting qb with arguably the best backup.
@aem870 Says:
Just because pundits underrated Penix doesn't mean the teams did.
@teacherl8330 Says:
Why do you care about overpaying? Ir's the owners money. They arent at the cap ceiling. STARTER + BACKUP ROOKIE is typical QB room cost. So, if PENIX BALLS OUT, who cares? If Kirk is healthy and still very good in his late 30s? Then who cares? ... They weren't one defensive player away from winning the Superbowl. But they have insurance at the mist important position.
@jamesmitchell233 Says:
The Falcons have factored in the extra cap space projected 2025-26. they will have to justify their choices by contract management of the rest of the roster, maintaining quality in position and depth at good value.
@jamesmitchell233 Says:
The Falcons got the extra cap space, evaluated their roster, and paid the money to get two QBs who they believe will be instant starters if needed. they have insurance in the position. Penix may well be starting by november and cousins backing up as mentor, and he may be happy to do this role collecting his guarantee.

@mikecontreras6974 Says:
How do you WIN a draft - what a stupid concept…not ONE of the players has played one snap in the NFL. Smh
@patrickschmitt5717 Says:
DJ that weakness that you were telling everybody that Philly attacked. Detroit did the exact same thing. And you could make the argument that got the two better corners.
@danumis_ Says:
Talked top 10 but not the Vikings at 10 lmao
@jonathanphan7187 Says:
Atlanta should have traded for Justin Fields and then draft Penix. You can let Fields start this first year and would have been much cheaper as well.
@danielparsons2859 Says:
The Falcons are betting on not having any top ten picks in the next few years so they pulled the trigger now and got their guy.
@Mike-ge7pe Says:
There’s a scenario where Atlanta could cash out on Cousins at the trade deadline or in the offseason. Not likely, but the potential return could be big
@christopherjones534 Says:
draft is very interesting, anticipating new season , enjoy commentary.
@BhBraaq Says:
A lot of disrespect to The Colts, not even mentioned and has a great draft
@rexstetson1717 Says:
I thought Purdy was going to come out in 2020, so I really studied him hard that year. The thing that really stuck in my mind was that I'd never seen someone in college with that good of pocket awareness and movement inside the pocket. I'm clearly not a professional scout, so I'm very aware that just because I think I see something, good or bad in a player, doesn't mean that is what I'm seeing. So when Brock ended up as Mr. Irrelevant the following year, I assumed I had been wrong. I now feel vindicated and can say, more than any other perceived talent or skill, it was his movement inside the pocket that stuck in my mind.
@ThatBoyCrank202 Says:
You’d be a fool to think Ryan Poles didn’t consider Calen declaring for the draft in 2024 last year

Must be a humbling period for guys like you when the draft is over and people compare and contrast huh?
@dantelabella9753 Says:
You want to know why the Eagles won the draft according to DJ? Howie Roseman literally just follows the pundits Big Boards. He's literally tried to "joke" about it. Why is it every year that he "wins the draft", because he's literally probably just on his phone scrolling through best available on ESPN LMAO.
@tedwilson2510 Says:
I’m just kind of confused why the falcons didn’t trade back or wait for a later round to get Penix since he wasn’t really projected to go first round. Maybe I’m stupid but I feel that would’ve been an option
