The fact that we have Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant, and Jalen Green in the NBA, 3 great young dunkers, and none of them want to be in the dunk contest is the saddest thing. Like what's the point of being a great dunker if you don't want to show it off. Then you think about it: What great players have won the dunk contest in the last 20 years? John Wall, Zach Lavine, Blake Griffin (3)? You have to go back to the origins of the contest to get Dominique and MJ. What great players have won the 3 point contest in the last 20 years? Dirk, Kyrie, Paul Pierce, Kevin Love, KAT, Klay, Devin Booker, Steph Curry (9).
There's just so little value in the dunk contest unless you have a good dance partner and an awful amount of creativity because every year it gets harder to come up with new dunks.
