Canada has been on a steady decline since the 90s and a steep one ever since the 2011 world cup where they performed admirably. Internal politics, nepotism and a complete diaconnect from transitioning strategy to a more modern game have basically flung them a decade back in terms of national team development. They used to beat/give the better tier 2 countries a run for their money. They barely look like they'd compete against the likes of Gemany now.

Pathetic effort from Canada. Three minutes in and players are already standing around, looking at each other with annoyed expressions, putting hands on knees, and showing little enthusiasm. Very weak tackling. The Rugby Canada brain trust on the men’s side should all resign in shame. If they don’t have the balls to resign, fire them. But what international level coach would take over such a poorly organized national program? There is no overall strategy. This is not a professional setup. The grassroots get no attention at all, but Rugby Canada thinks new, young, quality players will somehow just materialize, like magic. The national foundation of administrators, officials, players, supporters, and sponsors has eroded significantly over the past twenty years. Facilities, never great, are declining. Even Fletcher’s Fields are gone! The media could not care less, especially about massacres like this one against an odd touring side from Japan with few Japanese players. World Rugby, what is that all about?!

Didn’t see any special attacking shape from this Japan team. They played well though for a young side. Canada were poor though and not in the game for long stretches of it. They really struggled with the speed and power of the Japanese in contact. That’s surprising because lately Japan has struggled with the power of the opposition in their home summer series. I think Fiji are far and away the best team in this competition.

Players should stop jumping on each other when a try is scored. You could see that the player from Canada who scored from the chip got injured when a teamate jumped on him.

And so, the puzzlement that is Kingsley Jones's continual employment as the Canada head coach continues. This used to be a team that made a World Cup quarter finals. But under him, they can't even qualify to the World Cup. As explained in Squidge's video, Jones's tactics are about 10 years out of date with a complete refusal to adapt, reform and modernise.
